Preparing for a New Season
A Fall Guide to Dressing Well, Living Intentionally & Trusting God Through Change
Fall is my favorite season of the year not only because of the colorful trees, cozy baked goods, and spiced drinks, but because it gives us the opportunity to wear more clothes and style them in the most beautiful ways. There is something about layering textures, pairing unexpected pieces, and reaching for that favorite coat that makes fall feel like a season made for fashion lovers.
But beyond the fashion, fall is a season of transition, a gentle movement from the warmth and ease of summer into something slower, richer, and more intentional.
It is the season of layering summer staples with cozy knits, reaching for stylish coats and jackets, and, of course, welcoming our favorite boots back into rotation.
Yet, as nature changes around us, fall can also remind us of something deeper: new seasons require preparation.
“Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it?”
Isaiah 43:19
A new season can be exciting, but it can also feel uncertain. We do not always know what is waiting for us on the other side of change. Yet Scripture reminds us that we do not need to know every detail when we know who is leading us.
Sometimes, God moves us into a new season before we feel completely ready for it.
We may want to hold on to what is familiar, but preparation is part of growth. Just as we prepare our wardrobes for cooler days, there are moments when we must also prepare our hearts for what God is doing next.
Preparing for the Season Ahead
Sometimes, we ask God for something new without preparing ourselves for the season that comes with it.
If you are asking God for a car, for example, preparation may mean learning how to drive, getting your driver’s license, understanding basic car maintenance, and even considering the kind of vehicle that best suits your needs.
The blessing may be the car, but the preparation is what allows you to steward it well.
The same can be said about the seasons God brings us into.
As we anticipate the arrival of fall in the coming weeks, preparation means more than simply pulling our sweaters and boots out of storage. It means making sure our wardrobes are ready to keep us warm, comfortable, and, of course, stylish.
Here are the fall essentials worth having in your wardrobe.
The Knit Sweater
A fall wardrobe is incomplete without a good sweater.
Look for classic crewnecks, relaxed knits, cable-knit textures, and lightweight sweaters that can be layered as temperatures change.

A Well-Curated Style Cannot Be Rushed
“Enthusiasm without knowledge is no good; haste makes mistakes.” — Proverbs 19:2 (NLT)
Shopping has always felt a little like a love language to me. There is something undeniably satisfying about discovering a beautiful piece, tapping my card, and imagining all the ways it will fit into my wardrobe. It is a small rush of excitement that feels rewarding.
Recently, as I found myself moving from one beloved brand to another, filling online carts with pieces I was convinced I needed, I caught myself before checking out. I paused and asked myself a simple but necessary question:
Why the rush?
That single question shifted my perspective.
A well-curated wardrobe cannot be rushed.
Proverbs 19:2 reminds us, “Enthusiasm without knowledge is no good; haste makes mistakes.” While this verse speaks to many areas of life, it also offers wisdom for how we build our personal style. Excitement without intention often leads to decisions we later regret.
I realized that rushing to purchase clothing without fully understanding its place in my wardrobe would likely leave me with pieces that served only a temporary purpose. Some items might not complement my evolving style, while others would simply become another impulse purchase tucked away in the back of my closet.
Style is not built in a week. It is refined over time through thoughtful decisions, patience, and a clear understanding of who you are becoming.
Instead of trying to buy everything at once, I decided to build my wardrobe in stages. This gave me permission to slow down, evaluate each purchase, and focus on quality over quantity.
I began with the foundation of every timeless wardrobe: everyday essentials.
I gave myself a limit of eight basics in total tops and blouses. Setting a specific number helped me distinguish between what I genuinely needed and what I simply wanted. The “wants” are not off the table they will come in time but first, I wanted to establish a wardrobe that was versatile, intentional, and built to last.
For this first phase, I chose three blouses and three tank tops from H&M, along with two fitted T-shirts from Gap. Each piece earned its place because it serves a purpose, pairs effortlessly with other items in my wardrobe, and aligns with the vision I am creating for my personal style.
Below, I have shared each piece along with links for those who may be building a thoughtful wardrobe of their own. My hope is to inspire you to shop with intention rather than urgency, choosing pieces that you will reach for season after season.
A curated wardrobe is not about owning a lot of clothes it is about owning the right ones.
Just as God often works in seasons rather than in an instant, our personal style also deserves the grace to evolve. With patience, wisdom, and intention, we can build wardrobes that reflect not only our aesthetic but also our values.
At Che’l Magazine, we believe that true style is never rushed. It is cultivated with purpose, worn with confidence, and built to stand the test of time.
Linen-blend white shirt
A linen-blend white shirt is a timeless wardrobe essential. Lightweight, breathable, and effortlessly elegant, it can be dressed up or down for almost any occasion. Its versatility, comfort, and classic appeal make it a foundational piece that you’ll reach for season after season. This has been my favourite mum look this summer. Effortless and chic.

Dual Shirt
A lace-trimmed cotton shirt with puffy sleeves is a summer essential that beautifully blends romance with everyday practicality. The breathable cotton keeps you cool and comfortable, while the lace detailing and voluminous sleeves add elegance and character. Its charm lies in its duality, it feels feminine yet effortless, refined yet relaxed. Pair it with denim or linen for an easy daytime look or style it with tailored trousers or a flowing skirt for a more elevated ensemble. It’s a timeless piece that brings both versatility and sophistication to a well-curated wardrobe.
Fitted T-Shirt
Every curated wardrobe begins with strong foundations, and few pieces are as essential as the classic T-shirt. Simple yet sophisticated, it bridges the gap between comfort and style, serving as the cornerstone of countless outfits. Whether worn on its own, tucked into tailored trousers, or layered beneath a blazer, a quality T-shirt proves that true style often begins with the basics. Investing in timeless, well-made essentials allows you to build a wardrobe that is both effortless and enduring. I purchased this in a black and white.
Tank Top
A great summer wardrobe doesn’t begin with statement pieces it begins with dependable essentials. A quality tank top is one of those pieces. It offers comfort on the hottest days, layers effortlessly with summer staples, and serves as the foundation for countless timeless outfits. When building a curated wardrobe, it’s often the simplest garments that work the hardest.
Women's Black/dusty purple/white 3-Pack Ribbed Tank Tops | H&M CA
A Romantic Top
A delicate lace-trimmed blouse is a summer essential because it brings a touch of effortless femininity to any wardrobe. Lightweight and elegant, it can be paired with denim for a relaxed daytime look or tailored trousers and skirts for more polished occasions. Its timeless details add texture and charm, making even the simplest outfit feel refined.
Growth Without Compromise: The Art of Evolving Gracefully
“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”
Ecclesiastes 3:1
Life is made up of seasons. Some seasons invite us to grow, others challenge us to adapt, and many require us to let go of what once worked so we can embrace what is needed for where we are now. Whether it is our careers, relationships, or even our personal style, each season calls for a different version of ourselves. The beauty lies in learning how to evolve without losing the essence of who we are.
After looking through my closet recently, I realized I didn’t have enough pieces that reflected the summer season. Sad, I know.
In my early twenties, I carefully curated my wardrobe based on my body shape, selecting pieces that were flattering and highlighted the features I wanted to accentuate. Every outfit felt intentional, and over time that style became a part of my identity.
The funny thing is that the same carefully curated style stayed with me for years. Now, as a mother of two, being a next-door neighbour to 30, I have come to realize that those once-perfect silhouettes do not necessarily work with my new curves, and that has been quite the adjustment.
It made me reflect on how often we approach new seasons in life using old solutions. When we encounter situations that seem familiar, it is easy to rely on methods that worked before simply because they are comfortable. But the truth is, the same rules do not always apply. In my case, the same clothing and silhouettes no longer fit the way they once did.
That being said, I am learning the art of evolving gracefully with my wardrobe without compromising how I want to show up in the fashion world. Growth does not require us to abandon our identity; it simply invites us to express it differently.
Remember, this is a journey. Building a wardrobe that reflects who you are today does not happen in a day, a week, or even a month. Curating the perfect wardrobe is a process of discovery, refinement, and patience.
Perhaps that is what Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us of: every season has its purpose. Just as our lives change, our wardrobes can change too. The goal is not to hold tightly to who we were, but to embrace who we are becoming with grace, confidence, and without compromise.
As I continue to evolve, I’m learning that every season, just like every part of our lives, has its own rhythm. And while I’m still discovering which pieces will define this next chapter, I encourage you to embrace your own journey, one small step at a time. And, as I navigate this season, I’ll be sharing the brands that will help me show up with confidence, brands I believe will resonate with you as well. I can’t wait to share them with you. Stay tuned; recommendations to be continued.

Motherhood: A Grace We Carry
A Mother’s Day Reflection
Motherhood is often described in milestones… the positive test, the growing bump, the first flutter, the anxious kick counts, the sleepless nights, the first cry. But the truth is, motherhood begins long before a child is placed in a woman’s arms. It begins in hope, in prayer, in surrender, and sometimes, even in heartbreak.
Over the past week, I have found myself thinking deeply about the journey of motherhood the beauty of it, the uncertainty of it, and the quiet strength it requires. From the moment of conception to viability, every stage carries its own mixture of wonder and tentativeness. There is something profoundly humbling about realizing that the human body can nurture life while simultaneously carrying the emotional weight of protecting it.
And then comes delivery a miracle in every sense of the word.
Whether through a cesarean section or vaginal birth, motherhood asks women to walk through pain with courage. It stretches the body, the mind, and the spirit in ways that are impossible to fully explain. Yet somehow, women continue to rise through it with grace. Truly, it is only by the grace of God that so many mothers find the strength to endure, nurture, and love so deeply.
This Mother’s Day, we celebrate more than the polished images often associated with motherhood. We celebrate the invisible sacrifices. The quiet prayers whispered at night. The tears no one sees. The resilience hidden behind soft smiles and warm embraces.
And today, we also hold space for the women whose motherhood stories carry grief.
To the mothers who have experienced miscarriages.
To the women who have lost children.
To those longing to become mothers.
To the mothers healing from difficult pregnancies, traumatic births, or silent disappointments.
To the women raising children while rediscovering themselves in the process.
WE SEE YOU!
Motherhood is not defined solely by what the world can visibly measure. It is found in love, sacrifice, protection, nurturing, and unwavering devotion. Some women mother through presence, some through memory, and some through prayer.
There is no singular way to carry the title of “Mother.”
At Che’l Magazine, we believe motherhood deserves to be spoken about with honesty and reverence. It is beautiful yes, but it is also layered, emotional, exhausting, transformative, and uncertain. Behind every mother is a story that shaped her. A version of herself she had to release. And another version she is still becoming.
So today, we honour all mothers not only for what they do, but for who they are.
Women who continue to pour love into the world, even while learning to care for themselves too.
Happy Mother’s Day to every woman carrying the beauty and complexity of motherhood in her own unique way. Your strength is inspiring, your love is lasting, and your presence matters more than words can express.

The Soft Return: Why Spring Shopping Feels Like Freedom
Dare we say it? It’s time for spring shopping.
There’s a certain shift in the air, subtle at first. The days stretch a little longer, the light lingers, and suddenly the heavy layers that carried us through winter begin to feel unnecessary. Spring doesn’t just arrive in the weather; it arrives in our closets.
When I think of spring shopping, one phrase comes to mind: light and airy. Not just in fabric, but in feeling. After months of structured coats, thick knits, and careful layering, spring style invites us to exhale. It’s an invitation to soften, to move from bundled and braced to effortless and open.
Spring attire carries a quiet sophistication. It’s tailored yet fluid. Polished yet relaxed. Think breathable linens, flowing silhouettes, delicate textures, and colors that mirror the season’s optimism. There’s an understated elegance in dressing for spring, an intentional simplicity that feels both stylish and freeing.
What makes spring shopping so special is that it’s less about reinvention and more about renewal. It’s the gentle reintroduction of ease into your wardrobe. The swap from heavy boots to sleek flats. From wool to cotton. From dark palettes to tones that reflect light instead of absorbing it.
After months of covering up, spring gives you room ... room to breathe, room to move, room to feel lighter again. It’s not just about what you wear; it’s about how you feel wearing it.
So yes, perhaps it is time.
Time to edit your closet with intention.
Time to embrace silhouettes that move with you.
Time to step into the season feeling sophisticated, stylish, and most importantly free.
Spring is calling. The question is, are you ready to answer in style?

The January Ritual: Dressing with Intention
How slowing down, shopping for your closet, and dressing with intention can reset your entire year.
Happy New Year! Yes, yes, we are already a few weeks in, but it is still January, and January still counts.
I hope your holidays were restful, warm, and filled with the kind of quiet moments that leave your mind clear and your heart ready for what is ahead.
As I sat thinking about what story to tell this month, I found myself returning to a ritual I have practiced for years. And yes, I call it a ritual because it is more than just tidying up. At the beginning of every year, and at the start of each new season, I slow down and take inventory of my wardrobe.
I look at everything I own. I touch the fabrics. I notice what is worn, what still excites me, what no longer feels like me. I ask myself not just what do I have? but who am I becoming?
“Style is not about having more. It is about choosing better and choosing with meaning.”
This moment of pause is where clarity lives.
I begin to imagine new combinations, new silhouettes, new versions of myself. A blazer styled differently. A dress layered instead of worn alone. Pieces that once felt ordinary suddenly feel full of possibility. And in that process, a vision starts to form not just of how I want to dress, but of how I want to show up in the world this year.
“Before I buy anything new, I ask myself: who am I becoming?”
Only after that comes the purchase.
Because when you buy with intention, everything changes. You stop shopping out of boredom or impulse and start investing in pieces that truly serve you. Pieces that have purpose. Pieces that earn their place in your closet.
“Your wardrobe should support your life does not clutter it.”
So, this January, I invite you to try this simple but powerful reset:
Examine. Look closely at what you already own.
Vision. Imagine how you want to style, refine, and reinvent yourself.
Purchase. Buy only what aligns with that vision.
“Examine. Vision. Purchase. Let intention be your new luxury.”
Style is not about having more. It is about choosing better and choosing with meaning.

The Perfect Knit: Why the Right Sweater Changes Everything
There are few wardrobe pieces as unassuming yet transformative as the perfect knit. We reach for sweaters when the first chill kisses the air, when winter mornings feel slower, softer, and slightly magical. But not all knits are created equally and anyone who has spent a day tugging at an itchy sleeve knows exactly what I mean.
For me, the perfect sweater feels like a warm hug.
Picture this, you are tucked into the corner of a cozy café on a quiet winter morning. Outside, the world is dusted with fresh snow, the kind that falls in slow, dreamy flakes, softening everything it touches. You have your favorite drink warming your hands, a book opened in front of you, or you are simply watching the city move gently around you.
And then… itch.
A scratchy seam. A stiff collar. A fabric that looked soft in the store but betrays you the moment you sit down. Instead of sinking into the moment, you are pulling, adjusting, tugging doing everything except enjoying what you came for.
This is the silent tragedy of a bad sweater. It interrupts the peace we crave on days like these.
Now imagine the opposite.
A cloud-light cashmere knit that drapes just so, made with craftsmanship you can feel the moment it touches your skin. No irritation, no fuss, just softness, warmth, and ease. It hugs you gently, moves with you, and adds a quiet luxury to your everyday moments. Suddenly, that café corner becomes an escape again. The book is engaging. The view is beautiful. The season feels… romantic.
This is the power of the right knit.
It is not about trends or logos it is about how a sweater makes you feel. Comfort should not distract you; it should elevate you. A perfect knit lets you savor winter in all its beauty: slow mornings, snowy walks, late-night movies, and everything in between.
So, this season, treat yourself to a sweater that loves your back. One that feels like warmth, softness, and ease wrapped into a single piece. Because when your knit is perfect, the moment becomes perfect too.

What Is Canadian Fashion?
Where Comfort Meets Style
The brands that are redefining effortless elegance this season.
For the longest time, I found myself wondering what truly defines Canadian fashion.
The answer came quietly one morning as I stood on the platform waiting for my train to Union Station. The city was just beginning to stir, bathed in the soft warmth of early sunlight. At that moment, it became clear: this is Canadian fashion.
It is not loud or overstated. It does not rely on towering heels or excessive embellishment to make its mark. Do not get me wrong Canadians can dress up. But the day-to-day style here is thoughtful, intentional, and grounded in comfort.
Here, style is a lived-in, yet refined, a silk skirt paired with classic Converse, tailored trousers balanced by graceful ballet flats. Each look whispers confidence without demanding attention. The message is unmistakable: in Canada, style moves with ease, shaped by both practicality and quiet sophistication.

Style Reborn: Redefining Fashion After Baby
Bringing a new life into the world is nothing short of miraculous, but let's be honest, after childbirth it can feel like your personal style got left in the delivery room. Between sleepless nights, unpredictable schedules and a body that is still finding its way back to you. Fashion can easily take a backseat. But here is a secret... embracing your style postpartum is not about looking good; it is a powerful way to reconnect with yourself.
A new body, a new beginning The first step in rediscovering your post-baby style is simple but crucial: give yourself grace. Your body has just performed the ultimate act of strength. It is evolving, and so is your wardrobe. Let go of the pressure to slip back into pre-pregnancy pieces and instead, focus on garments that celebrate your new shape while healing your body. Think curve-loving silhouettes, forgiving fabrics, and pieces that make you feel undeniably you.
Comfort is the New Chic Function and fashion are no longer at odds. Soft, breathable fabrics, loose cuts, and nursing-friendly designs – that is, if you are nursing... – should be your go-tos. Wrap dresses, oversized button-ups and high-waisted leggings offer comfort without compromising style. These staples allow you to move freely – whether you are feeding your newborn or finally getting out for a stroller walk around the block.
The Power of the Little Things When your days are filled with diaper changes and cuddles with your baby, the right accessories can make a significant difference. A bold earring, a statement bag or stylish tote, or a vibrant scarf can transform even the most basic outfit into something intentional and uplifting. It is a quick style fix that says, I am still here and I care.
Style, Your Way This is the time to reimagine what style means to you. Love a minimalistic vibe? Lean into clean lines and timeless cuts. Prefer boho ease? Embrace flowing layers and earthy tones. The key is dressing in a way that feels authentic – pieces that fit not just your body but your life.
Style Is a Journey, Not a Snapback There is no rush. Rediscovering your personal aesthetic after childbirth is a gradual, evolving process. Take inspiration from fellow moms, fashion influencers or even your pre-baby wardrobe. Let yourself explore. Above all, treat yourself with the same kindness you offer your little one. You deserve it!
Motherhood may have changed your body, but it has also given you a whole new kind of power. Your style can reflect that strength, grace and resilience. With time, creativity and a little self-love, you will craft a postpartum wardrobe that feels not only fresh but also fiercely, fabulously you.
